Heart Masters at year eight.
Three Year 8 students, Charmaine, Elouise & James, conducted a brief review of the Heart Masters program from the students' perspective. This is what they had to say:
"We asked a cross section of approximately 30 students what they thought about the Heart Masters program in Year 8. We think the teachers use Heart Masters in different ways in the homerooms because students had many different things to say.
"All agreed that Heart Masters depended on how the teachers went about it. Where the teachers did it well, it was good. The 'feelings' cards, the 'friendship qualities' activities were good, fun experiences. Situations and role-play were good, too. For some it was boring, for a few the activities were 'childish', others 'liked the activities because you do fun stuff'.
We think the Heart Masters activities have good value, but some students' attitudes need to change. Having more sport, discussion and music would help students see the Heart Masters differently. They say they would like to be involved in organising some activities for the sessions. Teachers also need to chill and enjoy Heart Masters more.
